Saint George Cathedral is a parish of the Orthodox Church in America. Our parish traces its beginnings back to 1938 when Macedonian and Bulgarian immigrants who arrived Toledo sought to establish an Orthodox Christian Community.  The parish was formally founded in 1948 and after the Holy Greatmartyr and Trophy-Bearer St. George.

The Orthodox Church in America is in communion with the family of Orthodox Christian Churches throughout the world which comprise the Eastern Orthodox Church (Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, Antiochian Orthodox, etc.)

The Orthodox Church in America shares the same faith, doctrine, worship, and mission as Orthodox churches in other parts of the world: a unity of faith lived out since the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles at Pentecost. Faith in the Holy Trinity and the Good News of salvation brought about by the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ are at the center of Orthodox Christianity. Living in accord with and witnessing to the Orthodox Christian faith in our contemporary society has been and continues to be strongly emphasized.

On June 17th, 2007 the founder of our Diocese, His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill (Yoncev) fell asleep in the Lord.  On October 4, 2011, the Holy Synod met and elected Father Alexander as the new bishop of this diocese. He was ordained to the episcopate on May 5th at St. George in Rossford which is cathedral of the Bulgarian Diocese. His title is His Grace, Rt. Reverend Alexander, Bishop of Toledo and the Bulgarian Diocese of the Orthodox Church in America.
